Paula is a Teaching Fellow within the School of Psychology and she is currently the Course Controller for our first year studies (PS1001 and PS1002). In addition to being responsible for the administration of first year and providing lectures on research methodology, Paula runs the lab component of the first year course integrating research design, statistical analysis and practical laboratories. Should students have questions or need additional support outside of class times, they can see Paula during office hours (Wednesday 10:00 – 11:30am, Rm 0.52) or contact her by email (pjm11@st-andrews.ac.uk).
Paula has a research background in educational and developmental Psychology. Examples of research areas include: reducing disruptive and aggressive behaviours in children and adolescents; drug education; bullying in schools; coeducational and single-sex schooling; and spelling strategies used by children. Paula was also the lab manager for a cognitive/clinical neuroscience unit where studies were carried out using electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potential (ERP) techniques.
Paula has extensive experience lecturing and coordinating courses in New Zealand and Canada. In part due to the subject of her former research, she is very interested in implementing new methods to improve teaching and learning. For first year Psychology students at St Andrews, Paula strives to provide a stimulating, fun and effective teaching environment.
