My current work is exploring the communication between wild chimpanzees when engaged in naturally cooperative activities, such as hunting, group defence, and travelling together. I am investigating whether communication is used to coordinate joint activity when individuals are working towards a common goal. I will also be analysing levels oxytocin, the ‘attachment hormone’, in individuals engaged in such activities when working alone or with others, in order to look at potential proximal effects of social activity.
