I am a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Reicher interested in social psychology in general and social identity, group processes and political rhetoric in particular.

The aim of my PhD research is to analyse the use and effects of family metaphors (e.g. fatherland) within nationalist discourse and symbols. As part of a bi-national degree with the University of Göttingen, Germany, I analyse and compare data collected in both countries. In doing so, I hope to understand the socio-political origins of family metaphors as well as their effect on our everyday understanding of national identity.
