For my PhD I am examining the multiple expressions of laterality in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). Under the supervision of Dr. Tecumseh Fitch, I have been examining hand preference in a bipedal unimanual tool use task, head turning asymmetries, as well as eye preference for watching video. The aim of my thesis is to combine these measures, as well as naturalistic observations of hand use, to increase the knowledge base of hemispheric asymmetry and primate laterality. My experiments are conducted at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, Department of Veterinary Sciences, in Texas.
