I am a Ph.D. student supervised by Prof. Stephen Reicher and funded by Government of Maharashtra, India.

I am broadly interested in the study of antecedents and consequences of humiliation at individual as well as group level. I am looking into the conditions under which humiliation will lead to collective action. I am specifically interested in looking at this dynamics of humiliation in caste context. The intergroup situation of caste system is unique due to properties like existence of untouchability, graded inequality, impermeable group boundaries, stable group status and legitimization of hierarchical relations by religion. The study of humiliation in caste context will help us understand how caste membership humiliate Dalits (i.e. ex-untouchables); how does it constitute a serious problem of self respect and human dignity and finally, when and how do Dalits attempt to resist caste-humiliation collectively.
